The University of Canterbury (Maori: Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha, English: University of Canterbury) is located in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was founded in 1873 and is one of the earliest universities in New Zealand. It was founded by the University of Oxford. Created by scholars. The school is also the first university in the British Commonwealth to award honorary degrees to women. According to the latest QS World University Rankings in 2013, the University of Canterbury is listed among the top 250 universities in the world.
